about me
Hi! My name is Alaina Eckert, and I am passionate about Jesus, marine science, nature conservation, people, and bridging the gap between the "science world" and daily life! Being Wisconsin-born and raised, I am definitely a midwesterner at heart and grew to love and respect nature in the Dairy Land. I graduated with a degree in Biology and German from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2019, and I have been "on the road ever since." I have research experience in freshwater lakes based in northern Wisconsin and Minnesota, Himalayan mountain ecology in Bhutan, tropical marine research in Panama, and conservation in Germany.
I am a master's student in a bi-national program between Georg-August Universität, Germany, and Lincoln University, New Zealand entitled: International Nature Conservation. Currently, I reside in Panama and work with the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute on coral physiology. I am also a District 6270 Global Grant Rotary Scholar, which generously supports my efforts in my master's program.
Please feel free to drop a question about, for, or to me, and I look forward to sharing my (miss)adventures with you as a female scientist and human being. :)
